Press Release on the Official Visit of Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Andrey Korneyev to Turkmenistan for the Meeting of the Co-Chairs of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation

Ashgabat, October 30, 2024 — During the official visit of the Russian delegation, timed to coincide with the meeting of the co-chairs of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, a meeting took place between the Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, Andrey Korneyev, and the Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, A. Atayev. The discussions were aimed at exploring prospects for bilateral cooperation and sharing expertise on key issues in the field of education.

The parties reviewed opportunities for sharing best practices related to Russia's "Professionalitet" program, which is designed to accelerate workforce training for key economic sectors. The Turkmen side expressed interest in studying Russian approaches and methods aimed at reducing training durations effectively, with employer integration. The Russian side proposed organizing familiarization visits for Turkmen specialists to examine program elements in practice, including methodologies and principles for specialist training.

Special attention was given to pedagogical and academic assessment matters. In this area, discussions focused on the potential for cooperation in implementing standardized exams and unified final assessments, as well as the possibility of exchanging experience in Russian exam practices, such as the Unified State Exam (EGE) for 11th graders and the Basic State Exam (OGE) for 9th graders. These exams are critical in Russia’s educational system, providing standardized conditions for completing primary and secondary schooling and facilitating entrance to further educational institutions.

Additionally, emphasis was placed on the positive experience of Russian students participating in an international mathematics Olympiad held in March this year in the Smart City of Arkadag. The Turkmen side noted the high performance and active engagement of the students, underscoring the importance of such events in fostering educational and cultural ties.

The meeting also addressed the construction of an additional building for the Turkmen-Russian A.S.Pushkin Secondary General Education School. The parties agreed to continue analyzing conditions for implementing this project and to discuss further procedures necessary to initiate construction.

In conclusion, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing academic mobility, emphasizing the importance of increasing quotas for Turkmen students at Russian universities, which will further contribute to strengthening cultural and educational ties.

The official visit concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of readiness for further cooperation and joint development of the outlined initiatives, which will help to strengthen educational ties between Russia and Turkmenistan.
