The second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea was held in the Turkmen capital

​On October 14, the Turkmen capital hosted the second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea.

It should be noted that today inter-parliamentary cooperation is one of the most important tools for maintaining a productive dialogue between countries, strengthening effective international partnership and mutual understanding.

Speakers at the plenary session "Partnership for Peace, Prosperity and Mutual Trust" noted that the key role in creating and strengthening the foundation of parliamentary relations between Turkmenistan and foreign countries rightfully belongs to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. It is thanks to his foresight that the centuries-old ties of peoples at the present stage are strengthening and enriching, gaining new creative impulses, purposeful character and aspiration for the future.

It was emphasized that in recent years, along with the traditional issues on the agenda of multilateral cooperation between the States of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea, interparliamentary dialogue has become important in the implementation of agreements at the highest level, as well as in expanding practical cooperation. Interparliamentary Friendship Groups, whose activities are an effective tool for mutual understanding between fraternal peoples, are called upon to play an important role in this.

In the afternoon, the work continued in two sessions: "Economic cooperation, digital economy and Industry" and "Cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea to mitigate the effects of climate change towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals".

As you know, Turkmenistan has put forward a new philosophy of international relations "Dialogue is a guarantee of peace", which is universally recognized, understandable to everyone and based on universal human values.

At the 63rd plenary session of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Resolution "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust", initiated by the Turkmen State, was unanimously adopted, co-sponsored by 86 States. At the 79th session, Turkmenistan indicated its intentions to actively work both at the national level and in international formats in order to preserve and strengthen universal peace, stability and security and achieve the SDGs.

The participants of the meeting, noting the relevance of the Central Asia– Republic of Korea format, which is already showing its effectiveness, noted that for the successful implementation of joint plans, it is necessary to raise the mutually beneficial and promising partnership between the Central Asian "five" and the Republic of Korea to a qualitatively new level.

In the context of the exchange of national experience in ensuring sustainable development and strengthening the legal foundations of cooperation, the participants shared their views on modern methods of improving parliamentary and law-making activities, the development of mechanisms for establishing links between parliamentary friendship groups, profile committees, women parliamentarians and young deputies.

It was emphasized that the meeting of the speakers of the National Assembly of Korea and the parliaments of Central Asia will become a platform for regular dialogue and determining the direction of cooperation in various fields.

The results of the second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian States and the Republic of Korea were reflected in a Joint Declaration adopted on the basis of the proposals and opinions put forward.

Within the framework of the second meeting of the chairmen of the parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea, the second Turkmen-Korean consultative meeting was held with the participation of representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.

As noted, regular meetings give an impetus to strengthening ties between the two countries. Special emphasis was placed on the fact that inter-parliamentary relations are an important component of the interstate dialogue. As an example, the participation of a delegation led by the Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan in the first meeting of speakers of parliaments of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea, held in September 2023 in Seoul, was cited.

At the same time, topical issues of trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation were discussed, including transport, energy, high technology, science, education, healthcare, sports, tourism, climate change and environmental protection.

Today, on the sidelines of the second meeting, Chairman of the Mejlis D.Gulmanova met with Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan E.Koshanov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan M. Zokirzoda, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan N.Ismoilov, and bilateral meetings of interparliamentary friendship Groups were held.
