Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom Strengthen Cooperation in Education

On 14th of November at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Education, Azat Ataev, and Ms. Sarah Chidgey, Regional Exports Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to strengthen educational cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom.

Ms. Chidgey shared the United Kingdom’s successful experience in delivering quality education in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. She noted that several British universities, including the University of Westminster, have shown interest in expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan and providing higher education services. Additionally, they discussed the possibility of offering educational services in secondary education through the accreditation of Turkmen educational institutions. Ms. Chidgey provided detailed insights into how this process has been successfully implemented in neighboring countries.

Furthermore, Ms. Chidgey informed that at the beginning of next year, the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council is planned to be held, during which educational issues will also be discussed. She emphasized that the United Kingdom is interested in conducting more detailed discussions on education cooperation at the World Education Forum, which takes place annually in May in London.

In turn, Azat Ataev expressed interest in the proposed projects and supported the initiative to develop educational cooperation. He emphasized that it would be advisable to establish this collaboration gradually and consistently. As a first step, the parties agreed to explore the possibility of organizing joint webinars. These webinars will focus on a detailed study of UK educational standards, accreditation and licensing procedures, as well as quality assurance methods.

Ataev noted that such seminars would help identify specific and detailed questions related to the British education system that need to be studied. He also added that by May, the parties would be able to discuss step-by-step cooperation in greater detail, paying close attention to each aspect for the successful implementation of the project.

The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the British side expressed confidence that this cooperation would make a significant contribution to the development of Turkmenistan’s educational system and provide new opportunities for students and teachers, facilitating their integration into the global educational community.
