During the Revival of a New Era of a Powerful State, under the wise leadership of our Esteemed President, Arkadagly Hero Serdar, Independent and Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan is widely recognized as one of the harmoniously developing states in the world. Within the framework of the Concept for Improving the Methodology of Teaching General Education Programs until 2028 and the Action Plan for Implementing this Concept, special attention is given to the theory and methodology of teaching geography.
The newly published textbook, “Theory and Methodology of Teaching Geography” (authors: B. Charyyev, A. Berdieva, N. Seitiyev – Ashgabat: Turkmen State Publishing Service), is intended for students of teacher-training higher educational institutions. The textbook covers the scientific foundations of professional preparation, the theoretical and methodological foundations of teaching geography in general education schools, and the content and structure of school geography education. It also explores modern methods and forms of teaching geography in the updated conditions of general education schools, principles of the teaching process, techniques for using technical tools, and the main directions for utilizing digital educational resources in the learning process. The textbook reveals the methodology of teaching geography subjects in schools, focusing on developmental ideas in education
The textbook consists of an introduction, three main sections, and a list of references. The first section includes a chapter titled “Geographical Culture as Part of Human General Culture.” The second section contains eight chapters, including “Methodology of Teaching Geography as a Branch of Science,” “Content and Structure of School Geography Education,” “Types and Methods of Teaching Geography,” “The Process of Teaching Geography,” “Resources for Teaching Geography and Their Methodology,” “Forms of Organizing Geography Lessons,” “Using Digital Educational Systems in Teaching Geography,” and “Extracurricular Activities in Geography.”
The third section is devoted to the methodology of teaching geography subjects in schools. It provides detailed coverage of topics such as “Methodology of Teaching Physical Geography in Grade VI,” “Methodology of Teaching Geography of Continents and Oceans in Grade VII,” “Methodology of Teaching Physical Geography of Turkmenistan in Grade VIII,” “Methodology of Teaching Economic and Social Geography of Turkmenistan in Grade IX,” and “Methodology of Teaching Economic and Social Geography of the World in Grade X.”
This textbook was prepared by the authors considering the current trends and methodological approaches in the development of methodology as a science, as well as its changes. Although it is primarily intended for students of geography and related specialties in teacher-training higher educational institutions, the textbook can also serve as a guide for students of teacher-training secondary vocational schools, attendees of professional development courses, and geography teachers in secondary schools.
