In the afternoon of December 3, 2024, a delegation from Turkmenistan, including the Vice-Rector of the International University for the Humanities and Development (IUHD) and staff from the Turkmen Embassy, visited the Oil and Gas University of Ploiești to discuss prospects for academic collaboration.
During the meeting, warmly welcomed the delegation and emphasized Romania's interest in strengthening educational and research partnerships with Turkmenistan. He highlighted potential areas for collaboration, including academic programs, scientific research, and student and faculty exchanges. The Romanian side also proposed expanding cooperation through the Erasmus+ program to facilitate increased mobility for teachers and students.
The Oil and Gas University of Ploiești, established in 1948, is among Romania's oldest and most prestigious institutions, with a strong focus on petroleum engineering and related fields. The university hosts five faculties: Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Petroleum Technology and Petrochemistry, Economic Sciences, and Literature and Sciences. Programs are offered in multiple languages, including Romanian, English, French, and German.
Representatives from Turkmenistan introduced the Romanian side to the IUHD’s academic activities and shared insights into Turkmenistan’s Foreign policy based on the principles of Positive Neutrality, which promotes peace and stability regionally and globally. They also outlined national initiatives aimed at youth development.
In the spirit of collaboration, the Turkmen delegation proposed inviting professors and students from the Oil and Gas University of Ploiești to participate in the Open Mathematical Olympiad for University Students, scheduled to be held at IUHD in the first half of 2025. Both sides acknowledged the significance of international competitions in fostering academic ties, cultural exchange, and global understanding.
Discussions also included exploring the potential for a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities. Plans were discussed to organize joint events, conferences, and online lectures on topics of mutual interest.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of invitations for future visits and a commitment to deepening academic and cultural connections between the institutions.
