On December 5, a phone conversation took place between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During the conversation, opportunities for further mutually beneficial and neighborly cooperation were discussed.
Warmly greeting each other, the interlocutors expressed satisfaction that relations between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are strengthening.
Expressing gratitude to the President of the friendly state for initiating the phone conversation, the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted that bilateral meetings and negotiations are a vivid expression of the fraternal ties between the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples.
Expressing sincere gratitude for the kind words, the head of the neighboring state emphasized that Uzbekistan takes pride in Turkmenistan's achievements in all sectors and attaches particular importance to the expansion of friendly relations.
In addition, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev acknowledged the significant personal contribution of the Hero-Arkadag to strengthening bilateral partnerships. He also took the opportunity to convey warm greetings and best wishes to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
It was noted that relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan are characterized by openness, a high level of mutual trust, and understanding. In this context, it was stated that cooperation is successfully carried out not only bilaterally but also within the framework of international organizations.
During the conversation, the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral partnerships in the trade, economic, and fuel and energy sectors were discussed.
As is well known, for many years Turkmenistan, based on the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect, equitable partnership, and mutual support, has been supplying natural gas to the Republic of Uzbekistan. In this regard, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and the leader of the neighboring fraternal state noted the high efficiency of joint efforts in the gas sector, highlighted its long-term nature, and agreed to increase the volumes of Turkmen natural gas supplied to Uzbekistan. They also emphasized the great prospects for implementing joint gas projects planned for the near future.
The Hero-Arkadag and the President of Uzbekistan thoroughly examined issues of bilateral cooperation in the water management sector. The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed Turkmenistan's position on resolving water-related issues in Central Asia. Specifically, it was noted that water issues in the region should be resolved, first, based on universally recognized norms of international law; second, with consideration of the interests of all countries in the region based on international principles of free and fair access to water; and third, with broad participation of international organizations, particularly the United Nations.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan expressed strong support for these approaches and confirmed that the positions of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on water issues are fully aligned, emphasizing Uzbekistan's readiness for further close cooperation with Turkmenistan on water issues both bilaterally and within international frameworks.
During the phone conversation, it was noted that mutual cooperation is actively developing in the cultural and humanitarian spheres as well.
The implementation of previously reached agreements and joint promising projects was also discussed.
Taking the opportunity, the President of Uzbekistan once again expressed deep gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for supporting initiatives aimed at further strengthening and developing Turkmen-Uzbek relations.
In conclusion, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the traditionally fraternal relations between our countries will continue to develop consistently in the spirit of mutually beneficial strategic cooperation and exchanged wishes for robust health and great success in their responsible state activities.
