On December 5, the two-day International Scientific and Practical Conference "Innovative Methods and Technologies in Teaching Foreign Languages" began its work at the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmammed Azadi.
The forum, held in a hybrid format, brought together teachers, professors, experts, and specialists in linguistics and foreign language teaching methods from Turkmenistan and over 30 foreign countries, as well as numerous students from domestic universities.
This conference, along with an exhibition organized as part of it, became one of the significant events of the "Year of the Wisdom Treasury of Magtymguly Pyragy," aimed at successfully addressing educational challenges.
It is worth noting that under the framework of the program "Revival of a New Epoch of a Powerful State: National Program for the Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2022–2052," the education sector is systematically modernized, ensuring high-quality teaching in secondary, vocational schools, and higher education institutions.
In line with the Concepts of Digital Education and Improving Foreign Language Teaching in the country, new methods and pedagogical practices are being intensively introduced at all levels of education—from preschools to universities.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov attaches great importance to young people learning foreign languages, as language is a fundamental means of communication and the expression of advanced ideas. In this context, effective measures are being taken at all levels of education, starting from preschools, aimed at improving foreign language education, developing students' linguistic and communication skills, and incorporating innovative linguistic technologies into the curriculum.
The conference began with a video presentation about independent, neutral Turkmenistan and its achievements in science and education.
The forum’s agenda included discussions on priority areas of foreign language education, the application of modern methods, the development of student exchange programs, and more.
Speakers at the plenary session noted that the conference, as an effective platform for establishing new international contacts, contributes to strengthening professional connections and expanding scientific dialogue between Turkmen foreign language specialists and their international colleagues.
It was emphasized that joint educational projects with international organizations, particularly specialized UN agencies, are actively implemented. Evidence of this includes UNESCO chairs and clubs established at Turkmen universities, as well as secondary schools integrated into the UNESCO Associated Schools Network. The Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan has become an official member of the UNESCO Global Youth Community.
Reports were presented on Turkmen-French cooperation in linguistics, English teaching methods, inclusive practices, and the role of literature in foreign language education.
Speaking about the benefits of such events, guests highlighted Turkmenistan's emphasis on developing digital education and applying innovative foreign language teaching methods, expressing hope for further cooperation with the Turkmen side.
In the afternoon, international linguists conducted a master class where they shared their practices in teaching foreign languages with Turkmen colleagues and students.
A creative gift for the forum’s participants and guests was a concert titled "Culture is the Heart of Nations," prepared by students of the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmammed Azadi.
Tomorrow, the conference will continue its work within five thematic sections: "Achievements in Improving Foreign Language Teaching in Turkmenistan," "Linguodidactic Foundations of Language Teaching," "Modern Methods and Technologies in Language Teaching," "International Cooperation in Foreign Language Teaching," and "Tasks of Language Teaching Methods in the Context of the Concept of Improving Educational Methodology in Turkmenistan until 2028."
Additionally, a roundtable discussion is planned to review national and global experiences in foreign language education.
For international guests, an extensive cultural program has been prepared, including visits to the Magtymguly Pyragy cultural and park complex, shopping and entertainment centers "Berkarar" and "Arkach," and excursions to museums in the Turkmen capital.
