A Meeting with the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Was Held

On December 11, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Ms. Terhi Hakala, who is concluding her mission as the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia.

Expressing gratitude for the time devoted to the meeting, the EU Special Representative sincerely congratulated the head of state on the International Day of Neutrality. It was noted that the European Union highly values cooperation with neutral Turkmenistan, which advocates for strengthening peace and mutual trust in the region and the world.

Thanking for the kind words, the President of Turkmenistan noted with satisfaction the long-term fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union, within which specific work is being carried out to implement regional programs.

Thanking Ms. Terhi Hakala for her personal contribution to the development of constructive partnership, the head of state congratulated her on her appointment as Finland’s Special Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and wished her great success in her new responsible position.

During the meeting, it was noted that bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union have recently acquired a multifaceted nature. Turkmenistan is successfully cooperating with the European Union in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

At the same time, cooperation in the political and diplomatic system continues to develop consistently in bilateral and multilateral formats, including within the framework of the “European Union – Central Asia” Dialogue.

The productivity of cooperation with the European Union was also highlighted within the framework of programs and projects implemented over many years aimed at the socio-economic development of the country.

In this context, the head of state noted the successful implementation of projects in the areas of legislation, science and education, agriculture, environmental protection, and combating climate change, and reaffirmed the country’s readiness to further strengthen effective relations with the European Union.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov once again expressed his gratitude to Ms. Terhi Hakala for her contribution to the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU, wishing her good health and further success in her work.
