An international conference titled "Joint Efforts to Strengthen International Peace and Sustainable Development" was held

On December 11, the capital hosted the International Conference titled "Joint Efforts to Strengthen International Peace and Sustainable Development". The forum, dedicated to the 29th anniversary of Turkmenistan gaining its status of permanent neutrality and the International Day of Neutrality, was attended by domestic and international diplomats, representatives of international and regional organizations, including the UN and its specialized agencies, the EU, the OTS, and others, as well as experts specializing in international relations and security, youth representatives, civil society members, research and scientific centers, and media representatives.

In the era of the Revival of a New Epoch of a Powerful State, Turkmenistan steadfastly follows its constructive foreign policy course, initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and successfully implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Demonstrating adherence to the principles of positive neutrality, peace-loving, and good-neighborliness, our homeland contributes tangibly to the development of equal and fruitful partnerships aimed at collective prosperity. Time has proven the correctness and foresight of Turkmenistan's decision to adopt permanent neutrality, enshrined in relevant United Nations General Assembly Resolutions, as a forward-looking and promising strategy.

The opening ceremony of the high-level session of the International Conference "Joint Efforts to Strengthen International Peace and Sustainable Development" took place in the Grand Conference Hall of the Yyldyz Hotel in the capital.

To commemorate the occasion, an exhibition organized in cooperation with diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan was held in the hotel foyer.

Rooted in the humanitarian traditions and wise philosophy of the Turkmen people, our country's neutrality aligns perfectly with the universal values embedded in the UN Charter. Today, Turkmenistan's neutral status acts as a factor positively influencing cooperation between states and international organizations in addressing contemporary issues. It also aims to facilitate the successful implementation of UN objectives, reflecting multifaceted collaboration.

As noted, the current conference is particularly significant as it is held ahead of the upcoming year, which marks several key milestones, including the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the proclamation by the UN General Assembly of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

The forum's title itself highlights the demand for active joint action in the modern world, reflecting global development trends. It was emphasized that, as the author and initiator of numerous large-scale international proposals, Turkmenistan aligns its initiatives with the interests of the global community. This approach underscores Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, which is characterized by collective systemic collaboration and the unification of efforts.

The UN and its Charter represent this consolidating force. Strategic partnership with the United Nations remains an absolute priority in Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, reaffirmed during President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres earlier this year in Ashgabat.

The neutrality policy, serving as a political, legal, and philosophical constant, possesses immense constructive potential aimed at benefiting humanity.

Speakers at the high-level session included prominent figures such as Binali Yildirim, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States; Abdulaziz Kamilov, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Foreign Affairs; Natalia Gherman, Executive Director of the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate; Alexander Zuev, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law; and Terhi Hakala, Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia.

Video messages were delivered by Melissa Fleming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, and Ban Ki-moon, the 8th UN Secretary-General and head of the Global Green Growth Institute.

Speakers commended Turkmenistan’s constructive foreign policy of neutrality and its proactive peacebuilding stance on the international stage. It was highlighted that the conference’s key objectives align with the noble goals outlined in the UN Charter. Turkmenistan, as a reliable and responsible partner of the UN and other reputable organizations, actively participates in collaborative efforts to strengthen peace, security, and cooperation in the region while addressing contemporary challenges and threats.

The forum also continued with thematic sessions such as “Sustainable Development as the Foundation of Peace and Trust,” “Trust Among Nations and the Role of International Organizations,” and “Innovative Approaches to Strengthening Trust,” held at various venues in Ashgabat.

Participants acknowledged the exceptional organization of the event and expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his support, congratulating him and the Turkmen people on the International Day of Neutrality. The conference's outcomes were summarized in an Outcome Document, which highlights Turkmenistan’s neutrality policy as a modern, relevant, and effective mechanism for expanding fruitful international partnerships across various domains.
