In 2024, 11 Turkmen higher education institutions were included in the prestigious UI GreenMetric international ranking, which assesses universities’ contributions to sustainable development. Established by the University of Indonesia in 2010, this ranking is one of the leading platforms for evaluating universities’ efforts in environmental sustainability.
What is the UI GreenMetric Ranking?
UI GreenMetric analyzes university performance across six key categories:
1. Setting and Infrastructure (SI): Includes sustainable infrastructure, green areas, and overall campus arrangements.
2. Energy and Climate Change (EC): Evaluates the use of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and measures to reduce carbon emissions.
3. Waste Management (WS): Includes recycling programs, waste reduction efforts, and waste processing.
4. Water Management (WR): Assesses efforts for rational water use, water recycling, and pollution prevention.
5. Transportation (TR): Focuses on eco-friendly transportation solutions and reducing the carbon footprint.
6. Education and Research (ED): Measures the universities’ contributions to research and educational programs on sustainable development.
Each indicator is scored, and the points are summed to form the overall result.
