Meeting of the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan with the European Union Delegation

On October 4, 2024, a meeting was held in Ashgabat between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Bahargul Orazdurdyeva, and a delegation of the European Union, led by the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala. The delegation also included Aaro Ylitalo, Political Advisor to the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Beate Peks, EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Renata Wrobel, Advisor to the EU Delegation, and Dietmar Krissler, Head of the Central Asia Division of the European External Action Service.

Special attention was given to educational programs and digitalization. It was noted that programs supported by the European Union will play a crucial role in modernizing the education system in Turkmenistan and preparing qualified professionals to address global challenges.

During the meeting, important issues of gender equality in education and science were also discussed. The discussion focused on initiatives aimed at promoting equal access to quality education for all, regardless of gender, and expanding opportunities for women and girls in educational and professional spheres. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing gender equality, which is a vital aspect in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthening the country's social and economic structures.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to continue cooperation, emphasizing the importance of ongoing projects implemented through the Erasmus+ program and other EU initiatives, which contribute to the development of scientific potential and educational standards in Turkmenistan.

This meeting highlighted the key role that cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU plays in supporting long-term sustainable development and strengthening cultural and educational ties.
