TEXTBOOK “INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM” PUBLISHED FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Turkmenistan, located at the crossroads of continents and advanced economic centers, holds significant potential for the development of all types of transportation. For this reason, the transport sector remains a priority in Turkmenistan’s diplomacy. Productive efforts are underway to create new transit corridors and implement initiatives to transform the country into a major continental transportation hub.

Currently, Turkmenistan’s strategically advantageous location at the intersection of transport routes enables the implementation of large-scale national and regional projects aimed at forming versatile international transit and logistics infrastructures. These projects significantly reduce cargo transit routes and time, elevating trade and economic cooperation between Asia and Europe to a new level.

Based on these achievements, the textbook “International Transport System” (author: P. Charyyev, published by the State Publishing Service of Turkmenistan) was recently published for higher education institutions. The first chapter provides detailed information on various aspects of international transport cooperation, essential for training future professionals. It highlights the activities of specialized UN agencies, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the Organization for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD), the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and other major international transport organizations.

The second chapter of the textbook discusses various types of transport documents and conventions regulating international transport cooperation. It explains the legal frameworks for simplifying and standardizing rules and documents aimed at implementing the tasks of international conventions operating in Turkmenistan and promoting bilateral, interregional, and regional agreements on transit transportation.

The third chapter highlights major transport corridors in the region:

The “Afghanistan–Turkmenistan–Azerbaijan–Georgia–Turkey” international multimodal corridor, connecting the Middle East with Europe; the “Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan–Iran–Oman” transit project, linking Central Asia with the Middle East; the “Turkmenistan–Azerbaijan–Georgia–Romania” route, connecting the Caspian and Black Seas; the “China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan–Turkmenistan–Azerbaijan–Georgia–Turkey–Europe” multimodal corridor, providing access from the Asia-Pacific region through Central Asia and the Caucasus to Europe; the “Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran” railway corridor, as part of the North-South route; and the “Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Tajikistan” railway project in the East-West direction.

Additionally, the textbook includes an introduction, a list of references, official websites of international transport organizations, and a list of their abbreviations in Russian and English. It is a valuable resource for students specializing in international economic relations, transport systems, and those interested in global economic issues.
