The annual International Conference of the National Erasmus+ Higher Education Reform Experts Team was held in Tashkent, marking the 30th anniversary of cooperation between the European Union and Uzbekistan under the Tempus (1994–2014) and Erasmus+ (2014–2024) programs.
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan (MHESI), the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, the National Erasmus+ Office (NEO), the National Team of Erasmus+ Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs), and the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME).
The event brought together participants from Central Asia and Europe, including representatives of ministries, universities, research centers, as well as coordinators and participants of Erasmus+ and Tempus projects.
The opening ceremony was held in a solemn atmosphere. Welcome speeches were delivered by: Prof. Kongratbay Sharipov, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Uzbekistan, who emphasized the contribution of the Tempus and Erasmus+ programs to the modernization of education. Prof. Bakhadir Mirzaev, Rector of TIIAME, who highlighted the importance of cooperation with the EU. H.E. Mr. Toivo Klaar, EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan, who expressed support for strengthening academic partnerships.
The event addressed key aspects related to the development of scientific publication activity, access to advanced scientific resources, and strategies for promoting universities in global rankings.
The Turkmen delegation played an active role at the conference. Their presentation emphasized Turkmenistan's achievements in higher education reform, as well as the importance of digital technologies and international cooperation in enhancing the quality of professional training. The delegation also participated in panel discussions on prospects for regional cooperation and the implementation of joint educational projects.
The conference served as a significant platform for Turkmenistan, fostering the strengthening of educational ties and the implementation of new international projects. The participation of Turkmen representatives reaffirmed the country's commitment to modernizing higher education, developing digital technologies, and enhancing international collaboration.
