On December 23, 2024, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Education, Mr. J. Gurbangeldiyev, and the Head of the UNICEF Representative Office in Turkmenistan, Ms. Jalpa Ratna. The meeting addressed key issues of cooperation and prospects for further joint work in the fields of education and children's rights protection.
The Minister of Education emphasized the importance and significance of the partnership between UNICEF and Turkmenistan, which is implemented under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
During the meeting, the Minister highlighted key achievements of the collaboration, including the implementation of the "Work Plan for 2024" under the UNICEF Country Program for 2021-2025, aimed at ensuring inclusive and quality education for every child. It was emphasized that strategic documents, such as the "National Action Plan for the Implementation of Children's Rights in Turkmenistan for 2023-2028" and the "National Strategy for Early Childhood Development for 2020-2025," ensure the sustainable development of the country's education system.
Particular attention was paid to the development of STEAM education, including the opening of a robotics club in the city of Arkadag and the introduction of modern digital educational technologies. Efforts were also discussed regarding the creation of interactive educational materials, the implementation of an education management information system, and enhancing teacher training.
The Minister emphasized the significance of UNICEF's work in the fields of early development and inclusion, highlighting the results of establishing early development centers at kindergartens in Ashgabat and the Lebap region, as well as the opening of early intervention rooms. These efforts aim to strengthen the role of parents in the educational process and ensure equal access to education for children with special needs.
Ms. Jalpa Ratna expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that Turkmenistan is demonstrating significant progress in promoting children's rights and improving the education system. She expressed her readiness to continue supporting initiatives aimed at developing quality and accessible education for all.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their partnership and implementing joint projects aimed at the well-being of children and youth in Turkmenistan.
