Scientific and Practical Conference “Artificial Intelligence in the Education System of Turkmenistan”

On December 23, 2024, the scientific and practical conference “Artificial Intelligence in the Education System of Turkmenistan” was held. It was organized as part of the implementation of tasks outlined in the “Cooperation Roadmap” approved on November 9, 2023, between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and UNESCO’s Institute for Information Technologies in Education for 2024–2025. The conference discussed issues such as establishing international cooperation for knowledge exchange, developing information systems for education management, enhancing teachers’ digital skills, and introducing advanced technologies into teaching practices considering Turkmenistan’s needs and characteristics.

The opening speech was delivered by Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, A. Atayev. Introductory remarks were also made online by Tao Zhang, Director of UNESCO’s Institute for Information Technologies in Education, and Zhao Xie, Regional Vice President of Huawei.

During the conference, representatives of the Ministry of Education and UNESCO’s Institute for Information Technologies in Education addressed key topics on the implementation and advancement of artificial intelligence in Turkmenistan’s education system. The discussed topics included: the draft strategy for the development of artificial intelligence in education (R. Mahmudov, Acting Head of the Digital Systems and Information Security Department, Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan); teachers’ and students’ competencies in artificial intelligence (Oksana Chigisheva, Specialist at the Digital Pedagogy and Educational Data Programs Department, UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, online); international educational platforms for artificial intelligence (Xiaohan Bi, Deputy Director of the UNESCO International Centre for Higher Education Innovation (ICHEI), online); preparing the younger generation for production with the help of artificial intelligence (Durdygylych Mergenov, Specialist at the Innovation and Information Center, Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan).
