Weightlifting: World Records and 28 Medals!

Turkmen weightlifters achieved remarkable success at the Asian Championships for juniors and youth held in Doha, Qatar. They set two world records and won 28 medals, including 11 gold, 8 silver, and 9 bronze.

At the championship, Shahzadbek Matyakubov, a student at the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Education and Sports, broke two world records. Competing in the 102 kg weight category, he lifted 177 kg in the snatch, earning a gold medal. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 219 kg, setting a new world record for youth. Shahzadbek exceeded his previous record, set in September, by 3 kg. His combined total of 396 kg also set a new youth world record. He returned home with three medals.

However, Shahzadbek was not the only one to achieve such success. Anamjan Rustamova, who recently enrolled at the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Education and Sports, won three gold medals. Competing in the women’s 87 kg category, she achieved a total of 238 kg (103 kg in snatch and 135 kg in clean and jerk), winning gold in each discipline and in the total.

Her classmate Gulyalek Kakmyradova won two gold medals and one bronze. Competing in the 64 kg category, she dominated the snatch (92 kg) and the total (202 kg). In the clean and jerk, she lifted 110 kg, earning a bronze medal.

Suleyman Jafarov, a student at the 5th Secondary School in Turkmenabat, also won three medals in the junior category. Competing in the 102 kg category, he lifted 150 kg in the snatch, securing a gold medal. He lifted 176 kg in the clean and jerk, earning a silver medal, and his total performance brought him another silver medal.

Ogulshat Amanova, a 10th-grade student at Ashgabat’s 104th Secondary School, was one of the few athletes to win six medals. Competing in the 49 kg category, she achieved 79 kg in the snatch, 97 kg in the clean and jerk, and a total of 176 kg. These results earned her gold in the junior category and silver in the youth category for the clean and jerk and the total.

Her sister Medine competed in the youth category in the 64 kg division. She earned a bronze medal in the snatch with a lift of 92 kg and a silver medal in the total with 201 kg.

Didarbek Jumabayev, an 11th-grade student at the “Olymp” Sports School, also brought home three medals. Competing in the junior category, he won silver in the clean and jerk (171 kg) and bronze in the total (298 kg). His clean and jerk performance also earned him a bronze medal in the youth category.

Islam Akmyradov, an 11th-grade student at the 35th Secondary School in Mary, claimed three bronze medals in the 89 kg junior category. He achieved a total of 296 kg (133 kg in the snatch and 163 kg in the clean and jerk).

The medal tally was rounded out by bronze medals won by Mayagozel Hurmenova, a student at the 28th Secondary School in Gumdag, and Babur Amangeldiyev, a student at the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Education and Sports.

A total of 237 athletes from 20 countries participated in the championship in Doha.
