UNICEF's activities in Turkmenistan are being developed

On December 23, a meeting took place at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Education, J. Gurbanberdiyev, and the head of the UNICEF Office in Turkmenistan, Ms. Jalpa Ratna.

During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of cooperation and prospects for further joint work in the areas of education and children's rights protection.

Highlighting the importance of the partnership between UNICEF and Turkmenistan, the Minister of Education noted key achievements of the collaboration. These include the implementation of the “2024 Work Plan” under the UNICEF Country Program for 2021–2025, aimed at ensuring inclusive and quality education for every child. The minister also emphasized the significance of strategic documents, such as the “National Action Plan for the Implementation of Children’s Rights in Turkmenistan for 2023–2028” and the “National Strategy for Early Childhood Development for 2020–2025,” which significantly contribute to the sustainable development of the country’s education system.

Further discussion during the meeting focused on the development of STEAM education, including the opening of a robotics club in the city of Arkadag and the introduction of modern digital educational technologies. In this context, the parties discussed joint efforts to create interactive learning materials, implement an education management information system, and enhance teacher training.

The Minister emphasized UNICEF's critical role in early childhood development and inclusion, noting the successful establishment of early development centers at kindergartens in Ashgabat and the Lebap region, as well as the opening of early intervention offices. These efforts are aimed at strengthening the role of parents in the educational process and ensuring equal access to education for children with special needs.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Ms. Jalpa Ratna acknowledged Turkmenistan's significant achievements in promoting children's rights and improving the education system. She affirmed UNICEF's readiness to continue supporting initiatives aimed at fostering quality and accessible education for all.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the partnership and implementing joint projects aimed at the well-being of children and youth in Turkmenistan.
