On January 27, 2025, an important meeting was held in Ashgabat between representatives of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the international organization Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO). The Turkmen side was represented by the Deputy Minister of Education, Azat Atayev, and the Head of the International Cooperation Department, Gulnabat Gurdova.
Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO) is an international organization headquartered in London, United Kingdom. VSO specializes in volunteer support and human capacity development in key areas such as education, healthcare, and livelihoods. The organization operates in over 20 countries, with a strong focus on improving the quality of education, training teachers, and creating inclusive learning environments. VSO implements projects aimed at sustainable development and ensuring equal access to opportunities for everyone.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss prospects for cooperation in education and to exchange experiences. Special attention was given to issues related to teacher training, the implementation of modern teaching methods, and the development of educational programs designed to equip students with essential skills for living in a modern, globalized world.
Representatives of VSO, including Mr. Purna Shrestha and Ms. Joyce Laker, emphasized the importance of educational initiatives aimed at supporting and developing teachers, schools, and students. They expressed VSO’s readiness to share its extensive experience in education reform and teacher capacity-building.
During the meeting, opportunities for joint projects focused on modernizing Turkmenistan’s education system were discussed. Particular interest was shown in the exchange of global best practices and the introduction of innovative teaching approaches.
The meeting was held in a warm and constructive atmosphere, demonstrating the mutual commitment of both parties to the development of long-term cooperation. The significance of cultural and educational exchanges in strengthening friendship between nations was also highlighted during the meeting.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants expressed confidence that joint efforts would lead to significant achievements in education and create new opportunities for students and teachers in Turkmenistan.
