Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom Enhance Academic Cooperation: Online Meeting with the University of St Andrews

As part of efforts to expand international cooperation in higher education, an online meeting took place on February 11, 2025, between representatives of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, leading universities of the country, and the University of St Andrews (United Kingdom).

The meeting brought together representatives from the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for the Humanities and Development, as well as the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the United Kingdom.

From the British side, the meeting was attended by Professor Matteo Fumagalli and Professor Filippo Costa Buranelli from the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews, who are responsible for international cooperation.

The primary focus of the meeting was to explore prospects for academic collaboration between Turkmenistan’s higher education institutions and the University of St Andrews. Participants discussed opportunities for student and faculty exchange programs, joint research projects and publications, the development of educational initiatives, and participation in international academic events.

Both sides expressed strong interest in expanding academic cooperation, identified key areas of partnership, and outlined the next steps for launching joint projects. Discussions also covered the development of educational programs, online courses, and scientific research initiatives.

The Turkmen delegation presented the country’s higher education priorities, while representatives from the University of St Andrews reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and fostering academic exchange.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants emphasized that expanding partnerships between universities in Turkmenistan and the United Kingdom would facilitate knowledge exchange, enhance scientific potential, and contribute to the training of highly skilled professionals.
