UNICEF representative in Turkmenistan Jalpa Ratna visits Lebap Museum of History and Local Lore

UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Jalpa Ratna visited the Lebap Velayat Museum of History and Local Lore. Museum experts told the guests about the museum exhibits, which present both the modern achievements and economic development of the region, as well as its history, cultural heritage and unique natural attractions.

The UNICEF representative was greatly impressed by the museum collections of national clothing and jewelry, as well as the story about the diversity of types of national handicrafts, demonstrating the inexhaustible imagination and artistic taste of Turkmen craftswomen.

The Lebap Velayat Museum of History and Local Lore has been operating since 1967. In September 2011, its new building was opened, which created all the conditions for organizing museum work at the most modern level. The museum sections are equipped with equipment for simultaneous translation and virtual tours. Its storage facilities contain more than 20 thousand exhibits.

The section dedicated to the period of independence presents information related to the political and socio-economic life of the velayat, photographs, various valuables and scientific information about them. The ethnography section demonstrates material and cultural values related to the ancient life of the people. The exhibits in the display cases highlight the development of agriculture, animal husbandry, crafts, weaving, and represent the oriental bazaar located on the trade routes of the Great Silk Road. Of great interest to museum visitors are jewelry, carpets, copper, clay and wooden utensils, national clothing made from keteni fabric, embroidery samples, women's capes, musical instruments, and tools.

The nature section presents the flora and fauna of the Repetek, Amu Darya and Koytendag reserves of the Lebap velayat. A special exhibit of the museum is a 150 million year old dinosaur footprint stone taken from the village of Hojapil.

In the archeology section, you can find interesting information about the city of Amul, the Astanababa and Alamberdar mausoleums, the Idrisbaba madrasah, the Dayahatyn caravanserai, the Dargangala monument, as well as ceramics, clay female figurines, ivory remains and other rare archaeological find.
