Turkmenistan and Turkey Strengthen Educational Cooperation

In line with the decree of the President of Turkmenistan, His Excellency Serdar Berdimuhamedov, a delegation led by Minister of Education J. Gurbangeldiyev paid a working visit to Ankara, the capital of the Republic of Turkey, on February 24–25, 2025.

A key highlight of the visit was the 4th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Turkmen-Turkish Council on Cooperation in Education, held on February 25 at the administrative headquarters of the Mogan Tourism and Technical Anatolian High School. The discussions, conducted in a spirit of constructive dialogue, focused on expanding educational collaboration between the two nations, underscoring the significant progress achieved through the visionary leadership of their heads of state.

Among the key topics on the agenda was the draft Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on Cooperation in Education. Additionally, both sides explored the issue of allocating a land plot or a state-of-the-art building for the Joint Turkmen-Turkish General Education School in Ashgabat.

During the meeting, Turkish Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin provided an in-depth overview of Turkey’s education system, outlining its key priorities and notable achievements. In response,J. Gurbangeldiyev, head of the Turkmen delegation, detailed the ambitious reforms being implemented in Turkmenistan’s education sector under the leadership of His Excellency the President, highlighting the nation’s remarkable progress and future development strategies.

The Turkmen side proposed a series of forward-looking initiatives to deepen bilateral cooperation. These include the implementation of joint educational projects in digital learning, robotics, and information technologies, as well as the development of modern methodologies for teaching literature, history, and culture, involving experts and educators from both countries. Other key discussion points encompassed experience-sharing in artificial intelligence technologies, vocational education systems, joint academic competitions, and the introduction of innovative teaching materials. Special emphasis was placed on the exchange of expertise related to international assessment systems such as PISA, TIMSS, and PIRLS.

An important cultural initiative proposed by Turkmenistan was the expansion of Magtymguly Pyragy’s literary legacy among Turkish youth, drawing upon the presidential book “Magtymguly – The Sage of the World”.

The session concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening educational ties. Concrete steps will be taken to implement the proposed initiatives, paving the way for deeper collaboration between Turkmenistan and Turkey in the field of education.
