Political consultations were held between the foreign policy agencies of Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic

On February 26, 2025, the political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic were held in Bishkek

The Turkmen side was presided by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and the Kyrgyz side was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zheenbek Kulubaev.

A wide range of present issues pertaining to Turkmen-Kyrgyz cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres were on the agenda of the consultations that proceeded in a constructive atmosphere. In addition, the sides analyzed and reviewed the implementation of previously reached interstate agreements, identified priority vectors for further joint activities and discussed the schedule of upcoming meetings at various levels.

Emphasizing the development of bilateral collaboration and consistent trustful political dialogue, the Ministers emphasized that regular meetings of the Heads of State of the two countries, the results of which give a significant impetus to the Turkmen-Kyrgyz relations, form the basis for the progressive development of the traditional partnership.

It was noted during the meeting that according to the UN General Assembly Resolution initiated by Turkmenistan 2025 was declared as the “International Year of Peace and Trust”, which is also marked by the 30th anniversary of the country’s neutrality. In this regard, the parties discussed joint activities in the International Year of Peace and Trust.

The sides underlined the effective nature and positive experience of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan within international organizations, in particular the UN, OSCE, ECO, as well as in the “CA+” formats. In this regard, the countries confirmed their mutual readiness to continue the practice of mutual support of initiatives in international organizations. At the same time, the diplomats exchanged views on current issues of regional and international agenda of mutual interest.

In the context of bilateral cooperation, special attention was paid to the prospects of inter-parliamentary relations in order to intensify the partnership strategy of the two countries in the field of lawmaking. At the same time, the Ministers noted the importance of maintaining a regular dialog between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The parties underlined the necessity to engage all possible mechanisms for unfolding the potential of trade-economic vector, diversifying mutually beneficial ties, increasing the volumes of mutual trade turnover. In this regard, the sides emphasized the importance of the work of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Kyrgyz Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation.

The meeting participants agreed that the humanitarian sphere has always been an integral component of interstate relations. In this context, the interlocutors spoke in favor of continuing joint work to organize reciprocal Days of Culture and other creative events, intensify contacts in science and education, as well as in the field of sports.

Upon the results of the meeting, the signing of the Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic for 2025–2026 took place.
