Hero-Arkadag Held a Meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Euronews TV Company, Pedro Vargas David

On February 27, a meeting was held between the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Euronews TV company, Pedro Vargas David.

Expressing gratitude to Hero-Arkadag for the opportunity to meet, the guest shared his impressions of his first visit to Turkmenistan.

Warmly welcoming Pedro Vargas David to the hospitable and ancient Turkmen land, the National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized that Turkmenistan pays special attention to consistently strengthening cooperation with such an authoritative media outlet as the Euronews TV company.

Noting the influence of the rapidly developing information sphere, based on advanced technologies and innovations, Hero-Arkadag reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to further expand cooperation with Euronews, whose audience numbers in the millions worldwide. This collaboration aims to cover Turkmenistan's initiatives promoting peace, good neighborliness, and trust. The positive practice of cooperation with Euronews was highlighted in this regard.

As noted, this is clearly evidenced by Euronews correspondents’ coverage of the first UN Global Conference on Sustainable Transport held in Ashgabat in 2016, the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, and the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference held in the Turkmen capital in 2017, as well as the Amul–Hazar 2018 International Rally and the first Caspian Economic Forum in the National Tourist Zone "Avaza" in 2019.

– This year, we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality. Over the past years, much has been achieved at both the regional and global levels, and now targeted measures are being successfully implemented. Turkmenistan calls on the states of the world and international organizations to closely cooperate in maintaining peace, friendship, mutual respect, and trust, – said Hero-Arkadag.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed confidence that the set goals can be conveyed to the broad public with the support of such a popular, reliable, and major media outlet as Euronews.

For his part, Pedro Vargas David emphasized the deep interest of the TV company he heads in consistently deepening and expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan, noting that much can be achieved through joint efforts, and currently, there are broad opportunities for implementing effective initiatives in this field.

As noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan’s peaceful foreign policy, its achievements in various fields, its rich cultural heritage, and its beautiful nature attract the attention of the global community. Special importance is given to cooperation with popular media to extensively cover the country's internal and external policies, as well as its economic, cultural, humanitarian, and tourism potential. The well-known Euronews TV company plays an important role in this regard.

In 2024, a successful Cooperation Agreement was reached between the "Türkmenaragatnaşyk" agency of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Euronews TV company. Throughout the year, Euronews broadcasted videos about Turkmenistan’s economic and cultural-humanitarian aspects.

In this context, the necessity of continuing this practice was emphasized, considering the great prospects for strengthening partnerships.

As is known, at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan presented the resolution "2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust," which was adopted with unanimous support from 86 states.

This is a highly significant step, as it is evident in light of today’s events that dialogue based on mutual respect contributes to peace and stability, stated Hero-Arkadag.

In turn, Pedro Vargas David emphasized that Turkmenistan's foreign policy, based on the principle of neutrality and making a tremendous contribution to strengthening global peace, enjoys broad support from the international community. This is a clear result of the deeply thought-out strategy pursued by the head of state.

As noted, in accordance with the title of this year, Turkmenistan plans to organize various political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian events at both national and international levels. The key event among them is the International Forum with the participation of world leaders, scheduled to be held at a high level in Ashgabat on December 12 this year.

– The planned targeted measures are clearly outlined in the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust. To ensure the document’s accessibility to the public, it has been published in the press, – said the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

The Concept particularly emphasizes information and communication activities, noted Hero-Arkadag. In this regard, he proposed organizing joint events and dialogue platforms with Euronews dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people also stated that it would be appropriate to take advantage of digital system benefits in this work. Euronews has a strong online presence with a large audience. The vast opportunities offered by social networks for globally integrating youth into the promotion of the humane traditions of peace and trust outlined in the mentioned Concept were taken into account.

Particular attention is also given to improving the qualifications of young Turkmen journalists and students receiving specialized education. In this regard, Hero-Arkadag confirmed his readiness to consider cooperation proposals with Euronews in this field.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Euronews noted that Turkmenistan, as a reliable UN partner, is steadily developing dialogue with this major international organization, and the country’s initiatives are supported by the global community. He also stated that he would take the opportunity to participate in the international forum dedicated to the remarkable 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

Additionally, Pedro Vargas David emphasized that Euronews has a special academy, which creates opportunities for exchanging experience with Turkmen journalists and developing technical cooperation.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people also confirmed his willingness to explore new projects and prospects to more effectively communicate information about Turkmenistan’s rich culture and history and its opportunities in the tourism sector.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Euronews noted that the "heavenly" Akhal-Teke horses made a great impression on him and highlighted Hero-Arkadag’s significant contribution – as a true admirer of these unique horses – to preserving the purity of the breed and passing it on to future generations.

He also mentioned that he visited the National Museum of Turkmen Carpet, and for the company he heads, it is a great honor to widely promote this remarkable art and traditions created by the Turkmen people in the media.

At the end of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, wished the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Euronews, Pedro Vargas David, success in his work.
