An international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality was held in Pakistan

On March 15, 2025, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan jointly with the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS) of Pakistan held an international conference “The Role of Neutrality in Strengthening International Peace”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Neutrality of Turkmenistan.
The conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, heads and staff of diplomatic missions and agencies of the UN and international organizations accredited in Pakistan, the ECO Science Foundation, representatives of analytical centers, prominent representatives of Pakistan’s business community, as well as local media.
The event featured speeches by Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan A.Movlamov, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs of Pakistan Tariq Fazal Chaudry, UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Mohamed Yahya, President of IPDS Farhat Asif, former Ambassador of Pakistan to Turkmenistan Tariq Osman Haider, Head of the Department of International Relations of the National Defence University of Pakistan Kurram Iqbal and Department of Social Sciences of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology.
In his welcoming address, Ambassador A. Movlamov spoke about the 30-year history of Turkmenistan’s neutrality. It was noted that Turkmenistan's neutrality is recognized by the entire world community through relevant UN resolutions, which emphasize that Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality status contributes to strengthening peace and security in the region. The Ambassador noted the importance of the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, aimed at consolidating efforts in addressing pressing issues on the global agenda.
Speakers at the conference particularly noted that over the past 30 years, the evolution of Turkmenistan’s neutrality has proven its compliance with the basic values and goals of the UN and has received recognition as a common asset of the world community.
It was particularly symbolic during the conference that 30 years ago, in this very same Crystal Ball Room of the Marriott Hotel, on this very day, March 15, 1995, following the results of the historic 3rd Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Islamabad Declaration was adopted, which for the first time in the international arena recognized and expressed decisive support for the Neutral Status of Turkmenistan.
