On March 17, 2025, the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, J. Gurbangeldiyev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to Turkmenistan, Mr. Mohd Suhaimi bin Ahmad Tajuddin. During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the field of education, higher education, and vocational training, as well as expanding educational opportunities for young people.
As part of the educational policy pursued by the President of Turkmenistan, the country’s education system is focused on developing international cooperation and introducing digital technologies. The meeting addressed the expansion of cooperation between the universities of the two countries and the implementation of cooperation agreements aimed at experience exchange and educational programs.
A notable example of educational cooperation between Turkmenistan and Malaysia is the activities of Petronas in Turkmenistan. It was emphasized that the Petronas Technological University provides high-quality education for Turkmen students.
During the meeting, proposals were put forward for developing new areas of cooperation between educational institutions in both countries, as well as for the implementation of joint projects. Additionally, was discussed the active participation of malaysian students in international Olympiads and competitions held in Turkmenistan.
The Minister of Education of Turkmenistan noted that an official invitation had been sent for Malaysian school students to participate in the International Mathematics Olympiad for Schoolchildren, which will be held in Ashgabat. He expressed confidence that this event would contribute to strengthening educational ties between the two countries.
It was also reported that, as part of expanding cooperation in education between Turkmenistan and Malaysia, work plans had been prepared for the implementation of agreements signed at the end of last year.
The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan requested that the Government of Malaysia consider the possibility of providing scholarships for Turkmen students. It was emphasized that implementing this proposal would further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of education.
In turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia, Mr. Mohd Suhaimi bin Ahmad Tajuddin, expressed his gratitude for the reception and the opportunity to discuss cooperation prospects. He thanked the Turkmen side for the proposed initiatives and stressed that there are great opportunities for developing educational ties between Turkmenistan and Malaysia. Additionally, he proposed expanding cooperation in the field of secondary vocational education between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their interest in further developing cooperation, emphasizing their commitment to jointly implementing new educational projects and initiatives.
