On March 19, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, who was visiting Turkmenistan at the head of his country’s delegation to participate in the International Conference "International Year of Peace and Trust: The Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development."
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to discuss the priority areas of bilateral partnership, Alparslan Bayraktar conveyed warm greetings to the head of state from the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It was emphasized that Turkey attaches great importance to strengthening effective cooperation with Turkmenistan, which has been successfully developing in a wide range of areas.
Warmly welcoming the guest to the ancient Turkmen land, the head of state extended his best wishes to the President of the brotherly country. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the results of the international forum would provide a significant impetus for further expansion and strengthening of interstate cooperation in the energy sector.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that the brotherly Turkmen-Turkish relations, which have a rich history, serve as a solid foundation for the successful implementation of priority tasks in political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. A clear example of this is the active cooperation with the Republic of Turkey in the energy sector.
Currently, Turkey is one of Turkmenistan’s largest trade and economic partners and holds a leading position in the country's foreign trade turnover. In this context, it was also noted that there are great opportunities for developing fruitful bilateral and regional relations in the fuel and energy, transport and communication, agricultural, and investment sectors.
During the meeting, the head of state reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness, as a country with abundant natural and hydrocarbon resources, to further enhance its partnership with Turkey in the energy sector.
It was emphasized that one of the most important current issues is the supply of Turkmen gas to the brotherly Republic of Turkey and further to other interested countries.
In addition, Turkish companies are implementing several projects on the Turkmen Caspian coast. Noting that the ongoing construction of a combined-cycle power plant will create opportunities for exporting Turkmen electricity across the Caspian Sea to neighboring countries, including Turkey and others, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to consider concrete proposals from the Turkish side on other matters of mutual interest and to support constructive initiatives from Turkish partners.
At the conclusion of the meeting, expressing confidence that fruitful interstate cooperation will continue to develop successfully for the benefit of the two brotherly states and peoples, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar extended their best wishes to each other.
