On March 24, the Mekan Palace in the capital hosted the conference "International Year of Peace and Trust: The Triumph of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality." The event was dedicated to the unanimous adoption of the Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan at the 61st plenary meeting of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held in New York City, USA, on March 21, 2025, at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
The event was attended by members of the Government of Turkmenistan, heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the country, faculty members of higher educational institutions, representatives of public organizations and the media, as well as students.
Before the start of the conference, participants explored an exhibition set up in the foyer of the palace.
Following this, the stage of Mekan Palace featured a literary and musical performance titled "Ýaşasyn Bitarap Türkmenistan!" The artists of the Main Academic Drama Theater of Turkmenistan, named after Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashy, used expressive theatrical language to highlight the significance of Turkmenistan’s neutrality principles in ensuring peaceful and prosperous life for nations worldwide.
Conference participants listened to a congratulatory message from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, addressed to the President of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the unanimous adoption of the new Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan at the United Nations General Assembly.
In his address, the National Leader emphasized that in the era of the Revival of the New Epoch of a Powerful State, in 2025 – the International Year of Peace and Trust – the recognition of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality for the third time through a corresponding UN resolution clearly demonstrates that the country's neutrality policy is being successfully continued. It also reflects Turkmenistan’s growing international prestige and the broad support for its leader’s efforts to promote global peace.
The message of the National Leader was met with prolonged applause.
Speakers at the conference sincerely congratulated the President of Turkmenistan, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, and the friendly Turkmen nation on the unanimous adoption of the Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan at the UN General Assembly on March 21, 2025. Their congratulations were accompanied by well wishes to the President and Hero-Arkadag for good health, longevity, and continued success in their great endeavors, as well as for the global promotion of Turkmenistan’s model of neutrality.
It was noted that the good news from the UN headquarters in New York brought immense pride to the nation. The Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan was adopted under Agenda Item 61 of the UN General Assembly, titled "Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace." Turkmenistan continues to demonstrate the effectiveness of neutrality as a key tool of preventive diplomacy at both regional and global levels.
Speakers emphasized that the UN’s recognition and reaffirmation of Turkmenistan’s neutrality for the third time, along with its positive experience, clearly reflect the broad international support for the philosophy of "Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace" and the principle of "Peace through Development," advocated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people. This reaffirms the triumph of the Turkmen nation’s peaceful and harmonious culture.
International guests, including representatives of UN agencies in Turkmenistan and foreign diplomats, also highlighted the importance of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and the newly adopted UN resolution.
It was emphasized that the repeated confirmation of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the global recognition of its connection with peace and stability hold special significance in today's complex international environment. Neutrality is the core of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, which prioritizes peaceful cooperation and good-neighborly relations.
In this regard, speakers underscored that Turkmenistan's ongoing initiatives in this direction, including its proposal to establish a United Nations-sponsored Mediation Center for Peace on its territory, remain relevant and significant.
Foreign diplomats participating in the conference described the adoption of the new UN Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan as another historic victory for Turkmen diplomacy. They extended heartfelt congratulations to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, Arkadagly Hero Serdar, and the friendly Turkmen nation on this remarkable achievement.
At the conclusion of the conference, the participants adopted an Appeal to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The event ended with a performance of the song "Ýaşasyn parahat durmuş!" with lyrics by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
