Hero-Arkadag Held a Meeting with the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar

On March 2, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met with the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani.

Warmly greeting each other, Hero-Arkadag and Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani exchanged congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of the blessed Oraza Bayramy.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the guest conveyed greetings and wishes for success and well-being from the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the National Leader of the Turkmen People.

Extending his best wishes to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Hero-Arkadag noted that he fondly remembers his recent phone conversation with the head of the friendly state.

The National Leader of the Turkmen People also expressed confidence that Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani’s visit to Turkmenistan would give new impetus to the activation and development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar in the field of sports.

As noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan actively participates in international sports cooperation and the Olympic movement and has extensive experience in successfully hosting world-class competitions. A vivid example of this was the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, held in Ashgabat in 2017. This large-scale event gave a significant boost to the development of sports in the country and strengthened regional cooperation in this field.

Hero-Arkadag emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to partnerships with international specialized organizations in this vital area. The creation of modern sports infrastructure, ensuring favorable conditions for athletes, and hosting international competitions are key directions of the country’s sports policy. Several sports federations operate in Turkmenistan, and significant efforts are being made to support and develop national sports.

Noting that today’s meeting will be an important step in elevating sports cooperation to a new level and will contribute to the development of the Olympic movement, the National Leader of the Turkmen People expressed confidence that the visit of the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar to Turkmenistan would encourage further collaboration and the promotion of new initiatives in this field.

During the meeting, Hero-Arkadag highly appreciated Qatar’s achievements in sports development, reaffirming Turkmenistan’s readiness to expand its partnership in this area. Taking the opportunity, the National Leader of the Turkmen People invited the Qatari side to participate in an international forum, which will be held in Ashgabat on December 12 in honor of the significant occasion – the 30th anniversary of the country's permanent neutrality.

Hero-Arkadag also expressed his appreciation to Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for his significant personal contribution to enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar and for supporting Turkmenistan’s initiatives in this field.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of the Olympic Committee of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, exchanged best wishes.
