Turkmenistan Contributes to Advancing Sustainable Development in Central Asia: Outcomes of the Third Subregional Seminar on the Cryosphere and Climate Change
On April 2–3, 2025, the historic city of Samarkand (Republic of Uzbekistan) hosted the Third Subregional Seminar titled “National and Subregional Action Programmes on the Cryosphere and Climate Change.” The event, held in a hybrid format, was organized within the framework of the “Cryosphere” project with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The seminar brought together representatives from Central Asian countries, international experts, and scientists to address key issues related to the preservation of the cryosphere — including glaciers, snow cover, and permafrost — and to develop effective adaptation strategies in response to climate change, which poses critical challenges for the region.
The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan proudly highlights the successful completion of this important event, which marked a significant step toward strengthening regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and sustainable management of natural resources.
The first day of the seminar, April 2, featured presentations on diagnostic analyses and summaries of previous meetings. Participants actively discussed the development of National and Subregional Action Plans, identifying priorities and approaches to implementation.
On April 3, strategic planning sessions took place. Through brainstorming and group discussions, participants formed a shared vision, set goals, and proposed actionable solutions.
Turkmenistan made a valuable contribution to the seminar, reaffirming its commitment to environmental initiatives. The Ministry of Education actively promotes the integration of climate change topics into educational programs, enhances youth awareness, and supports the development of scientific capacity to address global challenges.
The seminar concluded successfully, laying the foundation for long-term collaboration in the region. The outcomes — including recommendations and action plans — will serve as important guidelines for future work.
The Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan expresses its gratitude to the organizers and all participants for their meaningful contributions and reaffirms its readiness to continue supporting efforts toward a sustainable future for Central Asia and fostering international environmental cooperation.
