A New Chapter in Turkmen-Japanese Educational Cooperation: Memorandum Signed on Hydrogen Energy Research

On April 7, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and Japan’s leading higher education institution, the University of Tsukuba, on joint scientific research in the field of hydrogen energy. The signing ceremony was held in a highly organized online format.

The signed document marks a new important stage in the educational cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan. The main goal of the memorandum is to conduct joint research in the promising and globally significant field of hydrogen energy, and to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable energy technologies.

During the ceremony, Minister of Education of Turkmenistan Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiev and President of the University of Tsukuba, Professor Kyosuke Nagata, delivered speeches emphasizing that cooperation in the fields of education, science, and technology is of great significance not only for the two countries but also for global development.

The event was also attended by Professor Osamu Ohneda, Vice President for International Affairs at the University of Tsukuba, and Professor Toshinobu Usuyama, Executive Officer and Dean of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In recent years, cooperation in the field of education between Turkmenistan and Japan has notably intensified. The Japanese language is successfully taught in several higher education institutions and specialized secondary schools in Turkmenistan, and interest in the language among youth continues to grow. In addition, student and faculty exchanges, joint scientific forums, and training sessions are held regularly.

This Memorandum not only expands bilateral cooperation but also opens new opportunities for the development of international scientific ties and for young researchers and students to gain valuable global experience. Furthermore, the results of research in hydrogen energy are expected to make a significant contribution to sustainable development worldwide.
