On April 8, 2025, a high-level meeting was held at the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan between Minister J. Gurbangeldiyev and Mr. Abdullah Eren, President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) of the Republic of Turkiye.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized that Turkmen-Turkish relations are built on mutual respect, equality, and shared historical and cultural values. They underlined the importance of expanding cooperation in the fields of higher and vocational education, academic and student exchange, as well as scientific collaboration.
Minister Gurbangeldiyev informed the distinguished guest that under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the national education system is being continuously improved, with innovative technologies widely introduced and the number of higher education institutions increasing.
The Turkish side presented a number of proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation. These included offering scholarships to Turkmen youth in prestigious Turkish universities in fields such as medicine and engineering, developing opportunities for secondary vocational education, organizing qualification programs for public servants, hosting summer schools, and advancing bilateral academic exchange programs.
The Minister expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided under the “Türkiye Burslari” scholarship program and suggested prioritizing areas such as information technology, healthcare, agriculture, pedagogy, and natural sciences when allocating future scholarships.
The Turkmen side also highlighted the potential for joint initiatives with YTB to promote the philosophy of international dialogue — “Dialogue is the guarantee of peace” — proposed by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero Arkadag, among youth from Turkic-speaking nations.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister invited Mr. Eren to attend the upcoming International Scientific Conference and Exhibition to be held in the first half of October 2025 in Ashgabat as an honored guest. Both parties expressed their commitment to further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of education.
