From April 10 to 12, 2025, the city of Szeged, Hungary, hosted the 3rd International Student Leaders Meeting on Sustainability (ISLMS 2025), a prestigious global event jointly organized by the University of Szeged and UI GreenMetric. The conference brought together 64 outstanding student leaders from 57 universities across 27 countries to share ideas and collaborate on pressing sustainability challenges.
Turkmenistan was proudly represented by three engaged student leaders:
-Dilnoza Mamutniyazova, a 4th-year student at the Faculty of Computer Sciences and Information Technologies and Head of the Students’ Council at Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan (ETUT),
-Selbi Atayeva, a 4th-year student at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Ecology at ETUT and a UN SDG12 Youth Ambassador, and
-Davud Dovletov, a 2nd-year student at the Faculty of Processing of Agricultural Products at S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University.
Over the course of three days, participants took part in keynote lectures, forum group discussions (FGDs), environmental field actions, and vibrant cultural activities under the central theme “Challenges and Pathways to a Sustainable Future.”
The Turkmen delegation made a notable contribution to the global dialogue on sustainability. Dilnoza and Selbi delivered presentations on the sustainability initiatives implemented at ETUT, while Davud shared insights from the agricultural sector, highlighting sustainable practices in food production and education.
All three actively engaged in discussions covering key sustainability topics, including climate change, water management, and sustainable research and education—bringing diverse perspectives from Turkmenistan to the international stage.
A particularly inspiring moment of the event was the visit to the exhibition “Katalin Karikó’s Journey to the Nobel Prize and Beyond,” dedicated to the University of Szeged alumna and world-renowned scientist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023 for her groundbreaking work on mRNA vaccine development. Her story served as a powerful reminder of the global impact of science and education.
The event concluded with the signing of the International Youth Declaration on Sustainability Issues, symbolizing the collective commitment of young leaders to creating a more sustainable future.
The participation of Turkmen students highlights the country’s growing involvement in international sustainability efforts and the increasing role of its youth in shaping a greener, more responsible world.
In the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State, we express our deepest gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Hero Arkadag, and our Esteemed President Arkadagly Serdar for their exemplary efforts in creating conditions for students to receive modern education, to master innovative technologies, and to participate in national and international events. We wish them good health, long life, and great success in their noble endeavors for the benefit of the country and the people!
