Cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan is gaining new momentum in the “International Year of Peace and Trust”. Within the framework of collaboration, special attention is paid to bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres, current projects and issues are discussed and implemented.
Obviously, the humanitarian sphere is an integral part of Turkmen-Japanese cooperation. A clear evidence of this is the establishment of effective cooperation in the fields of education, science, cultural exchange, teaching of the Japanese language. The Japanese language is delivered at the state level in a number of universities and secondary schools in our country. It should be noted that the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies is one of the most reliable and active partners of the International University for the Humanities and Development, and in the course of bilateral relations, the exchange of teachers and students, official visits of delegations, as well as conferences and round tables have been organized. A total of 4 Japanese professors worked and trained students at the university on a long-term basis at various times within the framework of the agreements reached. In September 2016, the Global Japanese Office started working at the International University for the Humanities and Development. In the same year, for the first time in the history of Japan, a foreign language course entitled “Turkmen language and culture” was introduced and taught at Tokyo University. From November 20 to 22, 2017, an official delegation led by the president of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Hirotakoi Tateishi visited IUHD. As part of the visiting delegation, a Memorandum of Understanding on Student Exchange was signed between the two higher educational institutions. Based on the memorandum at different times six students of the International University for the Humanities and Development studied at a partner Japanese university for one academic year. Also, in the 2019-2020 academic year, a Japanese student from the the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies attended sociology at the International University for the Humanities and Development. Currently, the scale of mutually beneficial cooperation with Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, which is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Japan, is expanding every day, and new forms of cooperation are being implemented.
As a positive result of the ongoing work on further strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the countries, on April 14, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on an official visit to Japan, took part in the National Day of Turkmenistan, organized as part of the World Exhibition EXPO-2025 in Osaka. The National Day of Turkmenistan in Japan began with a commemorative entry in the Book of Honored Guests, which was followed by a tour of the national pavilion of Turkmenistan and viewing of a 3D animated video, which generally reflects the achievements and development of Turkmenistan. Respected guests, who visited the pavilion, also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the Turkmen nature, history and national cuisine. On the second floor of the building, exhibits from the city of Arkadag, ministries and departments of Turkmenistan reflect the activities of our country. Being one of the firsts among almost 160 countries to celebrate the National Day at the opening ceremony of the World Exhibition EXPO-2025 inspires the two countries to continue closer cooperation.
