Tomorrow, April 16, the Second Meeting of the Youth Dialogue for Central Asia, organized by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York. The event will be held within the framework of the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum and will be dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security.
This event is of particular significance in light of expert estimates that around half of Central Asia’s population is under the age of 30. This indicates the region’s tremendous demographic potential, with its population projected to reach 100 million by 2050. Realizing this potential directly depends on investments in education, the creation of opportunities, and the strengthening of regional cooperation among the younger generation.
The second meeting of the Youth Dialogue for Central Asia is a significant step toward creating a unified educational and cultural space and institutionalizing youth dialogue in the region. The event opens up unprecedented opportunities for the exchange of ideas, joint projects, and the formation of a common regional identity — which is critically important in the epoch of global challenges.
According to the official program, the one-hour session will feature reports on the role of youth in strengthening peace and trust, along with statements from the delegations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Special attention will be given to projects in the areas of the culture of peace, intercultural dialogue, and innovations in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
It is worth recalling that the first founding meeting of the Youth Dialogue for Central Asia was successfully held on October 2, 2023, in Arkadag city , where the Memorandum on the Establishment of this regional platform was signed. The Participants’ Statement from that meeting was published as an official document of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council.
Turkmenistan’s initiative to organize tomorrow’s meeting demonstrates the country’s active role in promoting regional cooperation. This aligns with its potential as a neutral state and an important participant in international processes.
The Youth Dialogue for Central Asia is aimed at strengthening the role of young people in peacebuilding processes and the sustainable development, in line with the UN-declared International Year of Peace and Trust , turning demographic potential into a real advantage for the region’s development.
