Seminar on Improving the Work of School Libraries

In the education system of our country, under the leadership of Arkadagly Hero Serdar, extensive efforts are being made to educate and raise the younger generation. The role of school libraries and librarians in successfully carrying out these efforts is extremely important. School libraries and librarians, who have earned respect through their honest work and dedication, are a source of pride for our country. Sharing the experience of such librarians is undoubtedly considered an essential part of the great school of mentorship.

On April 16, 2025, in Ashgabat, at Secondary School No. 4, a working seminar was held on the topic “Modernizing and Improving the Work of School Libraries,” with the participation of specialists responsible for providing school libraries with textbooks, teaching aids, and literature, including both political and artistic works. The seminar was attended by education workers from the educational institutions of Ashgabat, as well as from provincial education departments.

The seminar discussed how to effectively implement measures related to supplying educational institutions with textbooks and educational aids, their electronic versions, as well as enhancing control over their proper storage and use. It also addressed the promotion of students’ interest in artistic literature, which is a key part of the work of school libraries.

Special attention was given to the organization of exhibitions and events dedicated to promoting literature, including Turkmenistan’s literary heritage, as well as events dedicated to the “Year of Peace and Trust,” the “30th Anniversary of Our Independence,” and other important national celebrations. Participants emphasized that these events should always remain a key focus and be held regularly.

During the seminar, a presentation was made by the librarian of Secondary School No. 47 in Ashgabat, Nazik Atamyradov, who shared her work experience and demonstrated video clips of events held at the school. These video clips were uploaded to electronic carriers and sent to library specialists in city and regional education departments for use in their work.

There was also an exchange of opinions among participants regarding the organization of school library work and fostering interest among students in books and reading.

In conclusion, participants expressed their gratitude to the government for creating such opportunities for sharing experiences and enhancing the quality of school library work, and they expressed their appreciation to the President of Turkmenistan for supporting such initiatives.
