On April 16–17, within the framework of the Year of International Peace and Trust and in honor of the glorious 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality, the final stage of the Mathematics and Physics Olympiad among school students of the country was organized by the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov.
This academic competition was held in accordance with the Concept for Improving the Teaching of Natural and Exact Sciences in Turkmenistan and the Concept for the Development of the Digital Education System in the country. As is known, ensuring that education in the fields of natural and exact sciences meets international standards is one of the key responsibilities of education professionals. In Turkmenistan’s general education institutions, along with other subjects, intensified instruction in natural and exact science disciplines has been introduced. Professors and lecturers from the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov actively contribute to implementing such important tasks as organizing subject competitions, internet olympiads, and testing sessions in these areas.
The olympiad was held in three stages as an individual competition among students of the 11th and equivalent 12th grades. The first stage was held in early April at designated schools across districts and cities, where three outstanding students from each area earned the right to participate in the second stage.
The second stage took place on April 8 via direct video communication. Over 600 students from the cities of Ashgabat, Arkadag, and the provinces of the country participated. In this stage, students demonstrated their knowledge in mathematics and physics using the digital education system, and the most outstanding participants qualified for the final round.
The third — final — stage of the olympiad was held in the university library. In this round, participants were given 7 problems to solve within 180 minutes. Based on the total scores, the winners were determined and awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts.
Recently, the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov also organized a competition in the subject of ecology among students of general education schools in the country. Such competitions demonstrate the increasingly close ties between higher education institutions and general education schools, as well as the fruitful outcomes of educational reforms.
