On April 30, 2025, the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiyev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Turkmenistan, Fathudin Ali Mohamed. During the meeting, both parties noted the increasingly active nature of educational relations between the two countries in recent years.
Discussions focused on establishing a legal and contractual framework for cooperation between the ministries, as well as exploring opportunities to strengthen ties between higher education institutions of both nations. It was also proposed that Somalia’s Minister of Education visit Turkmenistan to participate in an international conference scheduled for October 2025.
The significance of this cooperation was underscored in the context of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the declaration of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
Both sides highlighted that Turkmenistan’s educational diplomacy is based on the principles of peace, trust, and mutual respect, which form a strong foundation for international cooperation.
