Turkmenistan – UN: Effective Cooperation in the Sphere of Youth Policy

On May 21, 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of education of Turkmenistan with a delegation led by the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Youth, Felipe Paulier. The meeting was attended by Mr. Thomas Malik, Data Analysis Specialist of the UN Office on Youth, representatives of UN departments in Turkmenistan, the Minister of education of Turkmenistan J.Gurbangeldiyev and relevant specialists of the Ministry. The Minister of education of Turkmenistan thanked the delegation for their visit to Turkmenistan and noted that the meeting would be of great importance in further strengthening our country’s international cooperation in the development of youth policy and the education system.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Youth Mr. Felipe Paulier expressed his gratitude for the meeting and said that this was his first visit to Central Asia, including Turkmenistan, and that this visit left him with pleasant impressions. The distinguished guest noted the fruitful meeting held at the Central Council of the Youth Organization of Turkmenistan named after Makhtumkuli during his visit, noting that this organization serves as one of the main instruments for expanding youth opportunities, as well as implementing state policy in Turkmenistan.

Felipe Paulier noted that the UN has a great responsibility in increasing the socio-political activity of youth and ensuring their comprehensive development, and noted that involving youth in the development of effective strategies for the current period, as well as increasing the activity of youth in decision-making are important tasks of the present time. The guest also highly appreciated the work carried out in Turkmenistan in this direction. In particular, recalling the second meeting of the Central Asian Youth Dialogue, held in April 2025 within the framework of the Youth Forum of the UN Economic and Social Council, he noted that Turkmenistan's efforts to adopt youth decisions, as well as to increase the socio-political activity of young people, including Turkmen youth, are very impressive. Also during the meeting, the honorary guest expressed gratitude to the UN and its structural divisions for their ongoing cooperation and stated that the authoritative international organization representing Turkmenistan can serve as an effective platform for expanding Turkmenistan's successful youth policy in the international arena. In conclusion, the guest wished further success to Turkmenistan, which is taking an increasingly important place in the international arena, and warmly congratulated the participants of the meeting on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's glorious Neutrality, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

For his part, the Minister of education of Turkmenistan J.Gurbangeldiyev told the members of the delegation about the youth policy successfully implemented in our country, emphasizing that the driving force of the state policy implemented under the leadership of the Esteemed President is the youth. During the meeting, it was noted that since the youth is the main source of development, reforms, stability and new ideas in society, effective work is being carried out in our country to implement the youth policy and its legislative support, in this regard, a number of important documents are adopted at the national level, and a number of initiatives are put forward at the international level. In addition, during the meeting, it was noted that Turkmenistan is always ready to intensify cooperation in this area, especially emphasizing the progress achieved in Turkmenistan's interaction with the UN in this area. At the end of the meeting, great hope was expressed for the effective continuation of this important cooperation in educating strong, talented and creative youth who will actively participate in building a modern society.
