Turkmenistan is strengthening its partnership with the OSCE. In this connection, a successful energy transition of a skilled workforce and the corresponding educational infrastructure was discussed at the startup meeting on 22-23 May this year. However, at present, only a few higher educational establishments and technical and vocational education institutions offer specialist training program in the field of renewable energy sources. A skillful worker needs assessment conducted in five countries of the region shows a growing skills deficit, which hinders the realization of the potential of renewable energy sources and economic growth. Attraction of women to the energy sector and identification of the specialties of their interest will also strengthen the workforce potential and accelerate the transition to green energy.
To support Central Asian countries in training personnel capable of designing, constructing and operating renewable energy source systems, the OSCE, with the support of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), is initiating the establishment of a Regional Working Group on Education for Inclusive Energy Transition (RTEET). A representative of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan Allamyrat Hojayev, a scientific worker of the Scientific and Practical Centre for Inclusive Energy Transition of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan Agamyrat Ovulyaguliev and Candidate of Technical Sciences, expert on RES of the Enterprise of the “TEBIGI KUVVAT” Public Association Serdar Mamedniyazov took part in the working group.
RTEET will serve as a regional platform for cooperation among educational institutions, ministries of energy and education, and energy companies in Central Asia. The aim is to develop and strengthen educational program in the field of renewable energy sources in technical higher educational establishments, with a focus on developing an inclusive and future-oriented workforce to support the energy transition in the region.
