Regional seminar on women's participation in peace and security held in Turkmenistan

A two-day regional seminar dedicated to the agenda "Women, Peace, and Security" and the National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 has started at the “Ýyldyz” Hotel in Ashgabat.

The seminar is attended by representatives of Turkmenistan’s ministries as well as international experts on Resolution 1325 and gender mainstreaming in the security sector. The main goal of the forum is to exchange national experiences and best practices in advancing the "Women, Peace, and Security" agenda.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Myahri Byashimova, emphasized that the country views the promotion of gender equality as an important component of its sustainable development and security policies. She noted that Turkmenistan is implementing the provisions of Resolution 1325 through the National Action Plan on Gender Equality for 2021–2025.

Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat, Ambassador John MacGregor, stated that sustainable peace cannot be achieved without the meaningful participation of women in discussions alongside men. According to him, when women are involved in peace processes, the resulting agreements are more inclusive and long-lasting.

Special attention during the seminar is given to the experience of the Central Asian Women’s Dialogue, established on the initiative of Turkmenistan in 2019 with the support of all five countries of the region. This platform brings together women experts, government representatives, and civil society to promote partnership and the participation of women in governance.
