Snapchat creators unveil next-generation AR glasses

Snap Inc., the company renowned for the Snapchat messaging application, is preparing for the commercial launch of its augmented reality glasses. Initially introduced in 2021 as Spectacles—a direct competitor to Apple Vision Pro—these glasses, according to their developers, were projected to become as ubiquitous as smartphones within just 5-10 years.

According to information from The Verge, Snap plans to release an updated version of the smart glasses to the market in 2026. While the precise technical specifications of the device have not yet been disclosed, insiders note significant improvements compared to the experimental model from 2021.

According to CEO Evan Spiegel, the final name for the gadget is simply Specs. This new model is significantly thinner, more ergonomic, and lighter than its prototype. It also boasts a noticeably wider field of view, allowing VR graphics to occupy a larger portion of the lenses and enhancing the immersion effect.
