Visit of the Turkmen delegation to the Federal Republic of Germany within the framework of the project “European Union for the Green Growth of Turkmenistan: Political Dialogue and Action on Climate Change for 2024-2028” by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ)

The directions for further activation of the foreign policy Turkmenistan are based on the principles of permanent Neutrality, peacefulness and neighborly relations. The strengthening of international relations gives opportunity for the creation of cooperation instruments aimed at ensuring regional and global stability. The development of bilateral relations assumes mutual respect, equality and consideration of the interests of both parties. Another direction of foreign policy of our country is the development of multilateral, mutually beneficial friendly relations with the European Union. In particular, Turkmenistan effectively cooperates with the Federal Republic of Germany.

On June 23, 2025, a group of representatives of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan and the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan began familiarization visits to the Federal Republic of Germany. This familiarization working visit is being held on June 23-28, 2025, within the framework of the project “European Union for the Green Development of Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action for 2024–2028” by the Society for International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Germany (GIZ).

The aim of the familiarization visits is to further strengthen international cooperation between leading research centers and higher educational establishments of Turkmenistan and Europe, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on May 14, 2024 between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the State Concern “Turkmengaz” and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). In this context, the main goal of this working visit is to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and support the exchange of experience in the field of science and education between Turkmen and German sides. Specifically, the working visit is aimed at discussing the key aspects of future Memorandums of Understanding with leading German universities, namely the Clausthal University of Technology and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, in order to exchange experience in scientific research. In addition, the main goal of cooperation with these universities is to join efforts in studying advanced green technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, to develop renewable energy and increase energy efficiency as well as to develop sustainable ecological solutions that contribute to achievement of the climate goals of Turkmenistan and the European Union.

On the first day of the working visit, the Turkmen delegation met with representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswärtiges Amt). In the meeting, strategies of Germany for international energy cooperation in the context of energy security and sustainable development, as well as mutually beneficial bilateral relations in this area were discussed. In addition, meetings were held with a representative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) in order to emphasize the potential of renewable energy sources, implement energy saving measures, introduce modern innovative technologies into the energy system, and  opportunities for bilateral cooperation in these areas.

In the afternoon, the Turkmen delegation held a meeting at the German Federal Ministry for Science, Technology and Space (Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt – BMFTR) to discuss German higher education policy related to renewable energy sources, funding mechanisms for research in energy and environmental technologies, and opportunities for academic exchange programs. The sides also exchanged views on a number of important issues of mutual interest. The working visit of the Turkmen delegation to the Federal Republic of Germany continues.
