On June 26, 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov, and the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia, Mr. Serhan Aktoprak.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM.
As noted, in light of the evolving situation in the Middle East region, Turkmenistan, guided by the principles of humanism and its status of permanent neutrality, has actively contributed to the political and diplomatic settlement of conflicts and the resolution of humanitarian issues. The actions undertaken by Turkmenistan reflect its firm commitment to promoting orderly, safe, and regular migration, which aligns with the obligations undertaken within the framework of the Global Compact for Migration.
The parties agreed on the need to further strengthen coordination in emergency response and preparedness.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the implementation progress of activities outlined in the Work Plan for the current year, including steps taken towards the realization of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).
