A NEW TEXTBOOK "WORLD HISTORY" FOR GRADE XII HAS BEEN PUBLISHED

New fields of study, specialties requires graduates to possess deep knowledge in the humanities. The course “World History” plays a crucial role in the training of highly qualified professionals and in helping students master essential knowledge.

A new textbook titled “World History” for 12th grade students in Russian-language general secondary schools was recently published (authors: J. Hatamov, J. Gurbangeldiyev. – Ashgabat: Turkmen State Publishing Service, 2025).

This textbook covers the modern era of world history, specifically the period from the year 2000 to the middle of 2025. To ensure chronological consistency in presenting historical events across various topics, the textbook also includes events from the second half of the 20th century.

Throughout the academic year, the textbook explores and analyzes changes on the political map of the world up to the end of the first quarter of the 21st century, the development characteristics of several countries, the political, economic, and cultural growth of various nations, the history of international relations, as well as developments in science, technology, culture, and other areas. While studying the foreign policies of global nations, particular attention is given to their relations with Independent Turkmenistan. The textbook also analyzes the significant contributions of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in developing theoretical foundations and practical principles for the country’s political and economic development.

The study of world history in the textbook is guided by principles stemming from Turkmenistan’s legal status of permanent neutrality. The authors aim to teach students to think independently, analyze learned material, and draw conclusions about historical events in the modern world, transformations in socio-political trends, and patterns in the development of the global economy.

The textbook incorporates historical documents and additional materials that allow students to gain a deeper and broader understanding of the studied subjects. To expand students’ geopolitical awareness, the publication is illustrated with relevant maps.

It also includes statistical data and tasks for creating and filling in tables. Additionally, it presents biographical information about political leaders and statesmen from around the world who significantly influenced the socio-political processes of their time.
