Turkmenistan Presented Its Environmental Agenda at an International Conference in the Altai Republic

A delegation from Turkmenistan participated in an international environmental conference held from July 24 to 26 at the “Manzherok” ski resort near the city of Gorno-Altaisk in the Altai Republic. Turkmen representatives, along with colleagues from seven other countries, discussed pressing issues related to environmental protection across the Eurasian continent.

The event was attended by government delegations from Russia, Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Guests were welcomed in accordance with the traditions of the indigenous Altai people and Russian culture.

According to the agenda, the conference covered several key areas of environmental protection. Participants discussed the impact of climate change on water resources and methods to mitigate its negative effects, the protection of specially protected natural areas, the development of a network of transboundary reserves and national parks, as well as the regulation of anthropogenic pressure on ecosystems.

During the plenary session titled “Environmental Challenges: Towards Sustainable Development,” country representatives presented their national environmental agendas and the government-level actions being taken for nature conservation.

The conference also featured a ministerial session titled “How to Maintain the World’s Water Balance?” and a thematic meeting focused on promoting transboundary ecotourism and developing relevant routes. Special attention was given to the preservation of biodiversity, particularly the protection of the snow leopard population found in the mountainous regions of Central Asian countries, including Turkmenistan.

Participants explored opportunities for experience exchange and the implementation of joint projects on the discussed environmental topics.
