The President of Turkmenistan congratulated the participants of the scientific and practical conference "The Caspian Sea - the sea of friendship and peace"

The head of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated on the Caspian Sea Day, celebrated in our country at a high level annually on August 12 to mark the entry into force of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea, as well as on the start of the Scientific and Practical Conference "The Caspian Sea - the sea of friendship and peace"!

"Turkmenistan regularly puts forward constructive initiatives to build up trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties in the Caspian region, which find broad support among the coastal states. A significant step towards expanding cooperation between our countries is the holding of the first Caspian summit in Ashgabat, which has become a reliable foundation for the development of a comprehensive partnership. At the same time, such a significant event gave a significant impetus to the development of solutions on many issues of building mutually agreed actions in the region. At the same time, the Summit for the first time at the highest level considered the importance of developing documents that will lay the foundation for multifaceted cooperation in the Caspian area. Among them, in particular, are the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea and the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.

In 2012, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the first Caspian Environmental Forum was organized in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. It was then attended by delegations from relevant ministries of the countries of the region and authoritative high-level international structures, as well as prominent specialists and scientists. The very fact of holding this event clearly demonstrated the significant efforts made by our state in building up partnership in maintaining environmental well-being in the Caspian Sea.

Turkmenistan also puts forward relevant proposals to intensify energy, transport and logistics, industrial and trade cooperation between the Caspian countries through the effective use of the impressive transport and transit potential of the region. At the initiative of our country, the first Caspian Economic Forum was held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone on August 12, 2019. This event, aimed at expanding trade and economic ties between the littoral states, made it possible to identify new areas of partnership of mutual interest in all segments of the economy. New significant proposals for the continuation and constructive development of cooperation between the Caspian states were voiced during the sixth Caspian Summit, organized at a high level in Ashgabat in 2022,” the President noted.

“In September 2023, Turkmenistan, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, made a proposal to create a “Caspian Environmental Initiative”. It is designed to promote substantive interaction at a high level on a wide range of issues related to the protection of the Caspian environment. We are convinced that the implementation of this initiative will serve as an important tool in consolidating efforts and subsequently taking more effective measures to ensure environmental well-being in the littoral countries.

The Avaza National Tourist Zone, located on the Turkmen coast of the ancient Khazar, is an example of consistent, environmentally sustainable development. Today, it has become a venue for holidays and other celebrations, international forums and official meetings aimed at strengthening and expanding the bonds of friendship, good neighborliness and positive partnership between all states.

Visual evidence of this is the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which was recently successfully held in this beautiful corner, on the initiative of Turkmenistan.

This event was organized during the International Year of Peace and Trust, marked by the 30th anniversary of our country's acquisition of neutrality. And therefore, it is very significant in the context of consolidating efforts to continuously maintain peace, trust and friendship in the Caspian Sea," the head of state emphasized.

"I am confident that the current Caspian Sea Day Forum, as well as the cultural and sports events dedicated to it, will make a significant contribution to expanding cooperation between the Caspian states and interested international organizations in protecting and studying the rich marine ecosystem and unique biodiversity of the Caspian Sea on a scientific basis, as well as significantly strengthening peace, friendship, brotherhood and trust in the region! Once again, I sincerely congratulate you on the Caspian Sea Day! I wish you good health, prosperity and great success in your work!" - Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted in his congratulations.
