UN Secretary-General sends letter to President of Turkmenistan

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has sent a letter to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressing his gratitude for hosting the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Avaza from 5 to 8 August 2025.

“Your country’s long-standing commitment to peace and multilateral dialogue has created a suitable framework for hosting the Conference. I commend your role in bringing together participants from all over the world, including Heads of State and Government, civil society representatives, youth and the media, around a common agenda. This event has played an important role in aligning national actions, regional cooperation and global policy frameworks to enable landlocked developing countries to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth while strengthening their resilience to future shocks.

The adoption of the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Action Programme represents an ambitious plan of action for the next decade, closely linked to the Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These commitments will accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on trade facilitation, structural transformation, transport connectivity, technology, climate resilience and mobilizing international support,” the UN Secretary-General wrote.

“I would also like to express my deep gratitude to you and the people of Turkmenistan for the warm welcome extended to me and my delegation. I look forward to working closely with you to ensure the full and effective implementation of the Avaza Action Programme,” Antonio Guterres noted.
