Turkmenistan and the UN discussed ways to counter modern challenges and threats

On September 10, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova held a meeting with the Regional Representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime for Central Asia, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan Oliver Stolpe.

During the talks, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation in the field of countering modern challenges and threats. Particular attention was paid to joint efforts to implement the UNODC Program for Central Asia for 2022-2025, which has been extended until June 2027.

Particular emphasis was placed on cybersecurity issues. In this regard, the importance of the UN Convention on Cybercrime, which will be signed on October 25-26 this year in Vietnam, was emphasized.

The Turkmen side emphasized its commitment to continuing fruitful cooperation with the UNODC, including in the field of cybersecurity, countering synthetic drugs and human trafficking. In this context, the importance of the adopted National Action Plan for 2025-2029 to combat human trafficking was highlighted.

The organizational aspects of upcoming joint events this year were also considered.
