On September 16, 2025, the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, J. Gurbangeldiyev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Turkmenistan, Hiroshi Sasaki, to discuss the long-term prospects facing the education systems of Turkmenistan and Japan.
The parties highly valued the fruitful cooperation carried out to date and exchanged views on future projects that will contribute to expanding the scope of interaction.
The Minister of Education of Turkmenistan noted that bilateral cooperation is being has gained new depth and significance as a result of the agreements reached during the visit of our esteemed President to Japan in April of this year. It was also emphasized that interest in learning the Japanese language is growing in the educational institutions of our country, and currently several thousand Turkmen schoolchildren and students are enthusiastically studying this language.
Among the main issues discussed at the meeting were proposals for the near future, including the implementation of joint educational programs on hydrogen energy; improving the professional training of teachers and students in the field of exact sciences through Japanese educational programs such as JICA and MEXT; carrying out coordinated cooperation in Turkmenistan’s higher and secondary educational institutions where Japanese is taught; and, in particular, the participation of Japanese education representatives in the international exhibition and scientific conference “Health Care, Education and Sports in the Era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State”, which will be held in Ashgabat on October 10–12 of this year.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties emphasized the continued bilateral support in achieving the set goals and wished each other good luck and success in this endeavor.
