The National Youth Conference on Climate Change (LCOY 2025) was successfully hosted at the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan. The significant event was organized in key collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, and various international organizations, underscoring Turkmenistan's commitment to youth climate action.
The significant event brought together key national and international stakeholders, having been organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, and various international organizations. Attendees included the Rector of the Oguz Han University, Vepa Yegenmyradovich Gutlyev from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Dmitry Shlapachenko, Head of the Youth Policy Department of the Ministry of Education, Mike Biker, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, the Deputy UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan, and a large body of engaged students.
The meeting served as a vital platform for discussing crucial climate change issues and leveraging the expertise of Turkmenistan's young ambassadors and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) experts.Following the plenary session's presentations, the focus shifted to future planning. A brief summary of Turkmenistan's youth efforts on climate change was delivered, along with a presentation of the results from last year's LCOY. Crucially, the session also determined the goals and objectives for creating a "Roadmap" for Turkmenistan's youth on climate change for 2026. Following the plenary session, the conference transitioned into sectional working groups where participants engaged in focused discussions on the most important thematic issues.
The sectional working groups highlighted the creativity of Turkmenistan's youth, who presented innovative ideas and proposals based on new technologies. Students from the Oguz Han University of Engineering and Technology were particularly active, sharing specialized proposals on crucial topics like green engineering, renewable energy sources, and biodiversity. This strong showing reflects the students' dedication to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a commitment for which they consistently receive high marks at the international level. During the closing session of the conference, the section leaders formally presented their key proposals for inclusion in the "Road Map," which represents the national youth climate declaration. The event concluded with sincere expressions of gratitude directed toward the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero Arkadag, and Hero Arkadagli Serdar, for their visionary policy of creating wide-ranging opportunities for the nation's youth to actively participate in works of universal and global importance.
